ABOUT

'The beginning of freedom is the realisation that you are not 'the thinker'. The moment you start watching the thinker, a higher level of consciousness becomes activated...you begin to awaken'

About

Writing has always been a part of my life in some way or another. As a child, I'd pore over Roald Dahl and Disney books, practising my writing above the lines in the books (writing in pen in books is something my current self really doesn't approve of!)  Growing up, I'd volunteer to write for regional newspapers and magazines, something I did for about 6 years. Unsurprisingly, I studied for a BA in English at Queen Mary University of London and during my time there, I wrote for a Covent Garden publication and joined the editorial team for the university newspaper. As soon as I graduated, I joined Macmillan Education publishing.

So where does psychology come into the picture? Funnily enough, I dropped psychology at college (17-year-old me didn't appreciate it then and if I could choose now, I would carry on with it) but it was in the final year of my English degree that I came across psychoanalysis and decided to write my dissertation on it from a literary perspective.  This led me to study for an MSc in Theoretical Psychoanalytic Studies at UCL where I wrote my dissertation on psychosomatics and the impact of trauma on the physical and mental condition.

Along this road, I've maintained a super huge interest in ideas of consciousness, being present and at peace and of stilling the noisy mind. So in my spare time, I love poking around spiritual and self-development books and when I'm not doing this, I'm usually either practising yoga or martial arts.

Everything I share on my journal here will be about matters of the mind and things that I've found to build inner peace - things that have given me 'A Little Light' in the most unpleasant of times. It's worth saying that I haven't arrived at these conclusions and positive habits all on my own. It's also worth saying that actually, sometimes I forget to implement them myself. But hey - we're all human and we're always learning. Otherwise, why would we be here?
