On my recent visit to Sassoon, I had a chat with Roxy, creative stylist at the Covent Garden branch, who shared her top tips for maintaining and styling summer hair.
Hello Roxy! Tell us a bit about your role at Sassoon.
I am one of the Creative Stylists at Sassoon Salon, Covent Garden.
What is your favourite aspect of the job?
There’s nothing I love more than meeting new people and making them feel good about themselves!
How can we protect our hair from heat and UV Rays?
It is important to protect your hair using products that protect from UV rays. As well as this try to reduce the amount of heated styling tools you use and air dry instead. For a surfy look, add texture by twisting individual sections as it dries.
Do you have any go-to products for the summer?
Sassoon Professional Curl Form is great for the summer to help define natural looking curls. As well as this the Sassoon Professional Illuminating Oil is great for coloured hair, instantly reviving colour and leaving your hair with a gorgeous shine.
Humidity and heat make styling outside of the salon a tad more difficult; do you have any tips for taming summer hair?
The System Professional Luxe Oil is great for taming tresses when the humidity takes over. In terms of styling hair, try elegant braids.
Has there been a specific cut and/or colour that’s been a popular choice at the salon for the hotter months ahead?
During the summer we often have a lot more guests walk through the door asking for shorter lengths. In terms of colour, guests will opt for lighter tones to give them a natural sun kissed look.
What’s your top choice for festival hair?
You can’t go wrong with braids for festival hair. It is a great way to look chic and ensure your hair is away from your face.
Chlorine and sea salt aren’t the best things for our hair; what are your tips for nailing beach tresses?
Two staples are a deep cleansing shampoo and intense conditioning mask. My tip for a slick summer style on the beach is to apply a hydrating conditioner to the roots and then comb your hair back off your face, pulling the product down through the length. Ensuring you look effortlessly stylish without sacrificing your hairs health.
Finally, what’s your overall hair philosophy?
A good cut is easy to look after and won’t need much work at home.
